International Women’s Day was celebrated by the AROH Foundation at Nongmadan Shadsngi yesterday which was attended by residents of 10 villages that were covered under “Parivartan (Holistic Rural Development Program) supported under the CSR initiative of HDFC Bank Ltd.
The foundation has been implementing a integrated village development program in Laitlyting, Wahlyngkhat, Langkawet, Laitmynrieng, Nongmadan Shadsngi, Myllat, Lyting Lyngdoh, Tangmang, Mawlam, and Saitbakon of East Khasi Hills district by imparting training and exposure visit in different trades like Apiculture, Piggery, Horticulture & plantation etc. and also setting up suitable backward and forward linkages for every livelihood component.
Rangbah Shnong of Nongmadan Shadsngi, P. Lyngdoh in his speech thanked the foundation and HDFC. He said the day is to mark the achievement of women free from biases, stereotypes, discrimination and one that is diverse, equitable and inclusive while differences are valued and celebrated.
Project coordinator of AROH Foundation, A. Warjri briefed women how this day was celebrated every year for the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment but also to critically reflect on those accomplishments and strive for a greater momentum towards gender equality worldwide. It is a day to recognize the extra ordinary acts of every woman and to stand together as a force to advance gender equality around the world.
A prize distribution ceremony was also held on the occasion where women beneficiaries who have been selected for achieving success in their life were awarded. This was done to boost the morale of every woman and to help them set the target in the future.
