The All Garo Hills SSA Teachers Association has expressed its opposition to the government notification of MTET issued by the government that states that teachers who were appointed after August 23, 2010 as per NCTE norms should also apply for MTET, 2021.
The notification was issued on April 27.
AGHSSASTA has also written to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma asking him to look into the issue while seeking a review of the decision taken by the government in the matter.
“We have already been serving in this quantity for many years and many of us are not eligible for any other government jobs due to the prescribed age limit,” they opined.
The teachers added that during their recruitment to their posts on August 23, 2010, there was no NCTE norm that mentioned writing the eligibility test to be reappointed as elementary school teachers.
“We had also sought a clarification from the DERT which confirmed that MTET is purely an entrance exam to become teachers in the state and meant for fresh candidates. There is no mention of the same requirement for those who have already been appointed in the NCTE norms, 2010,” the teachers said, while appealing that they be excluded from MTET.
