Former minister and senior NPP leader James Sangma said that his sister Agatha Sangma has performed very well in her tenure as the sitting MP of Tura parliamentary constituency.
His statement came after BJP Meghalaya president Rikman Momin had expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Agatha as an MP not only in Lok Sabha but also in Garo Hills.
Speaking to media persons here today, Sangma said, “She (Agatha) has been extensively touring and taking up issues not just for Garo Hills but for Meghalaya.”
He recalled that recently, Agatha led a delegation from Garo Hills to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to seek inclusion of Garo language in the list of languages which are being considered for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Stating that the BJP leader who made the comment against Agatha is ill informed, Sangma said that many centrally sponsored schemes are being implemented in Garo Hills without no slow down.
On murmurs that most of the developmental projects are going to Garo Hills ever since the MDA government took over, Sangma said that this is an absurd allegation since development is shared equally across the State.
“Since Garo Hills was neglected in the past, the developmental projects are taking place at a fast pace and some people can misconstrue that as some sort of bias,” he said.
“I believe that development is taking place in an equal way everywhere,’” Sangma added.
