The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) held its first agitational programme to demand that Tura be made the winter capital of Meghalaya.
Common people from different walks of life and eminent leaders from various NGOs in Garo HIlls took part, ACHIK said in a press release today.
KRIMA wants Tura to be made the second capital of the state to fulfil a long-held dream and, it said, make good on a promise from the founding of the state in 1972.
Former CEM of the GHADC, PK Sangma, said that a winter capital is the right of the Garo people as it was part of an agreement by all the leaders of the state during the statehood movement.
