The Ri-Bhoi unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has demanded clarification from the Dean of the College of Agriculture at Kyrdemkulai following the transfer of seven employees from the Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal.
The union wanted to know whether the seven will permanently settle at Kyrdemkulai while occupying the vacant posts. Additionally, concerns have been raised over the delay in conducting examinations or interviews for positions advertised in 2019.
The Dean assured the pressure group that the seven staff being transferred will not be taking away the jobs advertised in 2019 that the KSU hopes will go to locals. Interviews for these posts will be conducted soon, the Dean, Prof Dwipendra Thakuria, said.
The seven staff are members of the Kuki community and had to be transferred temporarily due to the prevailing law and order problems in Manipur.
“Since the CAU headquarters is located in Imphal, these employees have been moved to Kyrdemkulai for a period of three months. Their safety was at risk in Manipur and, if conditions permit, they will be transferred back after three months,” Thakuria said. “The staff members transferred from Imphal will not occupy positions meant for locals, especially non-teaching staff members. The advertisement for the vacant positions will be republished soon.”
