The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has failed to file a completion report with regard to the improvement and strengthening work of the national highway (NH-6) between Jowai and Ratacherra.
The authority on April 16 had assured the Meghalaya High Court that works would be completed within two months.
However, during a hearing on a PIL on Wednesday, the NHAI cited that due to “bad weather work could not progress as speedily as promised.” It sought more time to file the completion report.
A division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh granted the NHAI time till August 18 to file a completion report and directed Amicus Curiae Suraj Panthi to closely observe the progress made and file a counter report, if necessary on the same date.
Earlier, Shoumen Sengupta, the lawyer appearing for NHAI, in his submission said the Purvanchal Buildtech has completed 75 per cent of the work along the 51 km (Jowai to Wahiajer) stretch, while work along the 51.255 km from Wahiajer to Ratacherra, entrusted to the Dhar Construction Company, is 80 percent complete.
