A mock drill simulating an earthquake disaster was conducted at the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office today in Mawkyrwat.
The exercise was part of the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) level earthquake mock exercise organised by the DC office in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Guwahati.
During the mock exercise, the Incident Response Team (IRT) was activated by the Incident Command (IC), led by Additional Deputy Commissioner L.T. Tariang and CEO of DDMA.
The entire drill followed the directives of the IC, with all sections of the 1st Battalion NDRF’s Incident Command Post led by Lal Ringsan, INSP, the Operations Section Chief (OSC), Logistics Section Chief (LSC), Planning Section Chief (PSC), Staging Area (SA), Medical Aid Post (MAP), Offsite Control Room (COR), and Relief Camp Manager (RCM) are activated.
The mock exercise was conducted exclusively at the office involving 12 injured individuals, including two women and a child. The drill encompassed the evacuation, search and rescue operations, first aid treatment, triage, and transportation of injured persons via ambulances to the medical camp and Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital.
Various line departments, including district officers and staff, the police, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, the Health Department, and the NDRF team from Guwahati took active part in the exercise.
A debriefing session was also held after the mock drill in the presence of District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Dr. E.S. Langshiang.
