South West Khasi Hills District Magistrate Tableland Lyngwa has imposed Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting overloaded vehicles to ply along the Maheshkola to Sohhylleng road.
The district magistrate said continuous use of the PMGSY road by heavy laden vehicles have deteriorated and caused structural damages to the road.
“The road is designed as village road with an intending maximum axel load of 10.00 MT. However the trucks that are plying on the road are loaded up to 25 tonne which is more than double the bearing capacity of the road pavement,” he said.
Therefore, heavy laden vehicles of more than 10 tonnes are not allowed to ply through the road.
