Shillong, Aug 8: The Meghalaya government has finalized its plan of action for the observance of Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 at a state-level coordination meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Community and Rural Development Department at the Main Secretariat in Shillong.
The campaign will be observed across the state from August 9 to August 17, 2026.
This year’s observance will also commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, and the singing of Vande Mataram will be incorporated into suitable programmes during the campaign period.
As part of the state-level observance, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is proposed to unfurl the National Flag on August 14, 2026 during the National Handloom Day programme to be held at Ri Sai in Ri-Bhoi District, organized by the Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving under the Department of Textiles.
Special Eri silk National Flags are being arranged for the occasion. The state-level launch of the campaign coincided with National Handloom Day observed on August 7, 2026, which was inaugurated by the Minister for Textiles.
The meeting was attended by senior representatives from the Police Department, School Education and Literacy, Tourism, Textiles, Sports and Youth Affairs, Prosecution, Forensic Sciences, Information and Public Relations, Cooperation,
Commerce and Industries, and Arts and Culture, among others. The Chief Operating Officer of the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society, which is the nodal agency coordinating the campaign in the state, was also present.
All departments have been asked to submit their activity plans for the August 9 to 17 period and to hoist the National Flag at their offices and institutions in accordance with the Flag Code of India.
Citizens have been encouraged to participate in the “Selfie with Tiranga” digital campaign on http://harghartiranga.com. This year the portal will also feature the lyrics of Vande Mataram.
Departments have been advised to set up Tiranga Selfie Points at their premises, and to capture daily photographs and short videos of activities for documentation. The campaign will also converge with major state events, including the Independence Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan on August 15.
For community mobilization, the Community and Rural Development Department and MSRLS, along with district and block-level functionaries, will mobilize Self-Help Groups, Village Employment Councils, Village Health Committees, Village Organisations, Cluster-Level Federations and other community-based organizations to encourage household-level participation.
This includes promotion of flag-stitching through SHGs and USHA Silai units to support local livelihoods.
Existing stocks of National Flags will be utilized for the campaign. The public has also been encouraged to procure flags through Self-Help Groups and local vendors, in line with the Flag Code of India, to ensure proper display and handling of the Tricolour.
The Government has appealed to the citizens of Meghalaya to hoist the National Flag at their homes, participate enthusiastically in local activities, and share their patriotic moments on the Har Ghar Tiranga portal. Officials said the campaign this year carries special significance as it commemorates 150 years of Vande Mataram and aims to strengthen the spirit of national unity and pride across the state.
