Irate residents of Narpuh Elaka covering 11 dorbar shnongs will close down traffic movement along the NH6 to protest the alleged neglect of the State government and the National Highways Authority of India to repair the damaged road.
The decision was taken by the waheh shnongs of Ratacherra, Dona Umbluh, Dona Skul, Umkiang, Lumphyllut, Lumsoski, Pyrtakuna, Borsara, Kuliang, Shymplong and Tongseng villages who have all come together under the banner of the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
Last month leaders of the JAC had met with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and expressed their anguish over the atrocious condition of the national highway due to under maintenance by the NHAI and said they will be compelled to resort to road blockade if nothing moves ahead.
Angered by no action, the JAC at a meeting held today decided to protest and block movement along the national highway for 24 hours that will commence from 6am of March 7.
JAC president and waheh shnong of Umkiang Lasting Pala and chairman Bah Love You Bareh said they had to resort to such an extreme step because their pleas remained unheard.
