More than a year has passed since the inauguration of the Lumshnong C&RD Block office in East Jaiñtia Hills District remains non-operational.
The block office was inaugurated in December 2022 by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma “to bring administration closer to the people.”
Ahead of the elections, the state government had created over 50 blocks across the state with a promise that these will ensure better governance at the grassroot level.
Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) leader from Jaiñtia Hills, Wanshwa Nongtdu has expressed concern and said the office remained unutilised ever since it was inaugurated.
“The blocks inauguration spree is nothing but a political gimmick ahead of the elections to fool the people of Narpuh,” he said. The government should explain why the new block office remained locked and people should not keep silent on such a deprivation, he added.
The Lumshnong C&RD block covers Huroi, Hingaria, Borsora, Lejri, Lahalein, Larseng, Malidor, Pyrtakuna, Umkiang, Donaumbluh, Donaskur, Lumshnong, Chiehruphi, Mynkre, Thangskai, Brichyrnot, Umlaper, Umlong, Umrasong, Umstain, Tongseng, Sonapur, Umtyra, Wahiajer, Wahkoh, Khaddum, Ratacherra, Bambaithol, Musianglamare (old), Musianglamare (new), Nongsning, Umrasong and others.
