Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today laid the foundation stone for upgradation and development including metalling, black topping and re-construction of slide portion of approach road to Borsora at Lailad in Ranikor.
The 6.4 km road was sanctioned under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2022-23 at Rs 18 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Tynsong said the department should ensure that work progresses and completed within the stipulated time and urged the engineers and officers to collaborate and ensure that work must be done in an effective manner.
He also appealed to village heads and their representatives and the people, including the civil societies to extend their assistance and cooperate with the government for the smooth progress and timely completion of developmental works.
Tynsong highlighted the significance of enhanced road connectivity in Ranikor area and said, since the area is vital in terms of revenue generation with its abundance of mineral resources and natural beauty, the community could also explore the potentials of developing the area as a tourist destination.
He suggested setting up of homestays and other tourist-related ventures once the road project completes, to leverage on economic gains.
Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein said that the road would serve as a catalyst for various developments that would contribute to the state’s revenue. Highlighting its importance beyond being an export point, he underscored its role in connecting multiple villages situated in the border areas.
Commissioner and Secretary PWD (Roads & Building) S.M.A. Razi highlighted the proposals for major road projects relevant to Ranikor Civil Sub-Division like the Nongstoin to Maweit road, Nongkulang to Nongjri road, upgradation of Wahkaji to Phlangdiloin road, improvement of the road from Ranikor to Weiloi via Mawsynram and Weiloi to Ranikor via Mawkyrwat which the department is examining the feasibility of proposing it under different schemes of the Government of India.
He also informed that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) is taking up the work for upgradation of roads from Ranikor to Nongjri and Ranikor Maheshkhola-Baghmara Road.
Mawsynram MLA Olan Singh Suin, Deputy Commissioner Tableland Lyngwa and officials of the PWD (Roads) also spoke on the occasion.
