The East Jaintia Hills unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has written to the regional director of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to ask for support for organising an enrolment drive and awareness programme in the district.
Stating that educational opportunities are essential for the overall development and future prospects of people living in any region, the KSU said that it is unfortunate that East Jaintia Hills has been grappling with various challenges in terms of education, particularly for students who are unable to attend traditional brick-and-mortar schools.
In this context, NIOS can play a pivotal role in bridging this educational gap, it added. With greater awareness, the local population, parents, students and other stakeholders will be better informed about the benefits and opportunities available through NIOS.
The KSU further requested the creation of an examination and study centre within East Jaintia Hills.
