The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya organised a plantation drive at its Umpling campus here yesterday.
Inspector General Pradip Kumar inaugurated the event by flagging off an awareness rally to promote plantation and protection of trees. More than 500 saplings of different types of plants were planted by BSF officials on the campus.
Children of the BSF Senior Secondary School, BSF retirees and members of all ranks and their families also actively participated in the drive.
The planting efforts extended beyond BSF Shillong and reached border outposts along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Kumar stressed the significance of respecting and safeguarding the forest wealth and diverse flora and fauna for future generations. He praised the BSF school children, BSF retirees and force personnel for their overwhelming contribution, emphasizing their vital role caring for Mother Earth, a press release informed today.
