Shillong, Sep 28: A three-day training programme on ‘Climate Resilient Integrated Farming System and Agroforestry and Agrohorticulture Model’ was organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam in collaboration with Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Kolkata.
BIRD course director Dr Saroj Kumar Jena highlighted BIRD’s role in capacity building for rural banking and supporting FPOs and NGOs. NABARD Shillong GM/OIC JR Blah stressed on sustainable, climate-friendly farming for the rainfed-dependent North East.
ICAR Director Dr G Kadirvel said the institute has developed 60 farming models for the region and underlined Integrated Organic Farming System (IOFS) and agroforestry as key to resilience, adding that farming must be seen as an enterprise.
Altogether 34 participants from FPOs and NGOs working with NABARD across nine states attended the training. Sessions covered climate resilient IFS and IOFS, agroforestry models for the North East and NABARD’s support for IFS, agroforestry and agrohorticulture.
