Shillong, Sep 27: Two persons, including a transgender, claiming to be residents of West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh but suspected to have entered from Bangladesh were intercepted by the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC), Nongtrai Unit at Nongtrai village in East Khasi Hills district.
They were caught around 10 am on Saturday while travelling through a jungle route towards Mawdon-Shella road in vehicle ML 05 AC 5971, during a check by HYC members.
An FIR was registered at Mawsynram, the HYC said.
They are identified as Jhinuk Hijrani (22) who claimed to be a resident of Balurghat, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal and Priyanka Kumari (20) who claimed to be of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, the HYC said.
A case under Section 12(1)(a) and (c) of the Passport Act, 1967 has been registered.
HYC said while they produced addresses of Bengal and UP, their entry through a restricted jungle route near the international border is suspected to be from Bangladesh side.
Police are verifying their documents, travel route and antecedents.
