The three-day Krishi Kumbh Mela at ICAR RC NEH, Umiam started yesterday but was formally inaugurated today by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, today.
Other dignitaries included Central Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra and North Eastern Council Secretary K Moses Chalai.
Chalai emphasized on the development of agriculture and allied sectors in the region along with attracting and encouraging youth to agriculture through agri-entrepreneurship development.
The highlights of the fair include live demonstrations and exhibition of recent technologies through the 102 stalls of the host institute and others. Free soil testing and an animal health camp are also being conducted. Showcasing of the local products in more than 50 stalls put up by different self-help groups and others gave an opportunity to empower farm women and budding start-up entrepreneurs. This also provided an opportunity for exploring the potential agri-business ventures, technology commercialization and export market of the local agricultural products of the North East.
Several progressive farmers were bestowed with awards, appreciating their contribution towards the development of agriculture.
