The five-day capacity building training program for adopted seed rearers concluded in Nongpoh today.
Organised by the Central Silk Board (CSB), Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organization (MESSO), P-3 Unit, Nongpoh the program aimed to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of muga seed rearers through scientific training sessions and practical demonstrations.
A total of 20 progressive adopted seed rearers from Ri-Bhoi took part in the training.
Various resource persons conducted technical sessions covering topics such as host plant maintenance, scientific grainage techniques, pest and disease management, disinfection protocols, and climate-resilient strategies.
District Sericulture Officer (DSO) R.B. Lyngwa spoke on government schemes for promoting the sericulture sector and opportunities for entrepreneurship development in sericulture.
Senior Scientists Dr. Mahananda Chutia and Dr. Hridya H. from CSB, MESSO, Guwahati, attended the session and provided insights on key topics such as improved methodologies for Muga silkworm rearing, disease prevention techniques, and scientific grainage management. They discussed best practices for maintaining healthy host plants, effective disinfection methods, and preventive measures to reduce disease outbreaks.
The session also included an interactive discussion with farmers, addressing their challenges and providing practical solutions for sustainable Muga silkworm rearing.
As part of the program, a technology booklet titled “Muga Silkworm Rearing and Management” and a pamphlet on “Muga Silkworm Disease Prevention: A Comprehensive Guide for Farmers” were released and distributed to the farmers. These publications aim to provide practical guidance for improving disease prevention and enhancing silkworm rearing efficiency.
