A 21-day winter school on organic farming was inaugurated today at the College of Post-Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS), Umiam.
The ICAR sponsored event is being held on “Advancing Innovations in Organic Natural Farming for Efficient Utilization of Natural Resources and Rural Livelihood Security”. It aims to emphasise the importance of natural and organic farming in the context of climate change and the rural livelihood security.
The programme will focus on applying advanced innovations in organic and natural farming to optimize the use of natural resources, by featuring a series of lectures and practical sessions.
A total of 22 delegates across the country are taking part in this training program.
Welcoming participants to the event, Course Director Prof. Sanjay Swami outlined the various sessions planned for the program and emphasised the significance of natural and organic farming, noting its critical importance in today’s context.
Prof. Ram Singh, Dean, CoA (CAU-I), Kyrdemkulai congratulated the course director for organising the training programme.
Prof. D. Thakuria, Dean, CPGSAS (CAU-I), Umiam highlighted the importance of implementing natural farming in the country to establish a balanced ecosystem where plants, animals, and microorganisms can coexist harmoniously. He emphasised the need to understand how natural farming works and the importance of enhancing knowledge and skills in this area.
Dr. C. L. Acharya, Former Director of ICAR-IISS, Bhopal, discussed the crucial link between the health of the nation and the health of the soil in our country. He stressed the importance of maintaining soil health and highlighted that ensuring the availability of safe food and clean water will be a significant challenge in the future.
Dinesh Kulkarni, National Organizing Secretary, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh highlighted the importance of natural farming and addressed the issues of natural farming/organic farming in the country.
