The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has filed an FIR with police in Itanagar over the same social studies textbook that caused a small furore in Meghalaya last week.
The book, by Dhananjay Joshi and Neelam Jain, has been circulated for Class 3 in NCERT affiliated schools.
Under a section entitled ‘States, their Capitals and Languages Spoken’, it lists Arunachal Pradesh’s languages as Bengali, Nepali, Hindi and Assamese.
None of these “are indigenous nor majority spoken (sic) in our state,” AAPSU said in the complaint. It called this a “blatant and deliberate error”, “false or malicious information”, “utter disregard” of the state, etc.
Under Meghalaya, the same section of the text books lists its languages as Bengali, Nepali and Marathi, which drew the ire of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) last week. The KSU also registered a complaint with police here in Meghalaya.
