Meghalaya today recorded 102 new cases of Covid-19, the first time it has crossed a hundred since February. There were also 16 recoveries and no fatalities.
The sharp uptick in new infections this month has prompted the state government to once again call for citizens to wear facemasks in public and to maintain physical distancing. Eligible citizens are also urged to get their Covid vaccine booster shots. Free jabs are being offered until September 30.
There were 34 new infections in East Khasi Hills, one in East Garo Hills, five in North Garo Hills, 12 in Ri-Bhoi, eight in South West Garo Hills, 36 in West Garo Hills and six in West Jaiñtia Hills.
Seven recoveries were in East Khasi Hills, two in North Garo Hills, six in West Garo Hills and one in West Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 358 active Covid-19 cases in the state – East Garo Hills two, East Khasi Hills 103, North Garo Hills seven, Ri-Bhoi 45, South Garo Hills four, South West Garo Hills 14, West Garo Hills 170, West Jaiñtia Hills 11 and West Khasi Hills two.
In all, Meghalaya has had 94,511 Covid-19 cases, out of which 92,558 have recovered and 1,595 have died from the virus.
Forty-three patients are being treated in hospital with the disease – 33 in East Khasi Hills, seven in Ri-Bhoi and three in West Garo Hills.
