The Eastern West Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited littering of plastic wastes or items in offices, colleges, schools and tourist places within the district.
An order under Section 144 CrPC passed today said this was necessary to prevent plastic pollution and damage to the environment, for the safety and security of the general public and in compliance with the provisions of the Plastic Waste Management Act and Plastic Waste (Amendment) Rules, 2021.
“Anyone aggrieved by the order is at liberty to approach the competent authority for necessary order, added the order of the District Magistrate,” the order said.
