Meghalaya Police, in collaboration with Martin Luther Christian University, today conducted an awareness programme ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which will fall on Sunday, which was attended by students and faculty.
Police officer Swapnil Pawar spoke about the rampant rise of drug availability and drug use in the state. He stressed that the youth are the most vulnerable and susceptible to drugs and that makes it important that university students are armed with knowledge to combat the menace.
Pawar also added that drug use and illicit trafficking has led to an increase in other crimes in the state and he encouraged everyone to use the MEG-CopWatch-Women safety app to report any crime against women and children.
The students also got a chance to interact with Pawar during the question and answer session where students tried to clear doubts and problems they might face in their day to day encounter with drug addicts and on how to handle them.
