Noted music composer and singer Leomon Warbah passed away in Shillong on Wednesday. She was 86.
She wrote and composed over 100 songs and was also one of the top female singers in the Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills.
Leomon along with her siblings Bettymon and Itymon were members of the Warbah Sisters, a trio that dominated the Khasi music scene in the 60s and 70s.
Her songs were at par with the likes of master musician, Late Skendrowell Syiemlieh and Indian musicologist and historian, Helen Giri as she entered the list of top grade artiste of the All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan.
The veteran singer, who is the granddaughter of U Soso Tham, composed the Tiew Lamationg, Rympei I Mei I Pa, Hapdeng Ki Eriong, Niewkor ia ka por and numerous songs, still with the playlist in AIR. They also included gospel, patriotic and songs of nature.
Her melodious voice is still remembered by most Khasi music aficionados, especially AIR listeners.
A resident of Lumparing Kynjat Phutbol, the veteran singer will be laid to rest on April 8 at the Grace Covenant Church cemetery, Lawsohtun.
