As many as 40 stalls at Iaw Pynsiñ market in Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills were gutted by fire that took place today afternoon.
The shops that were gutted were mainly those dealing in agricultural tool, tea stalls and traditional food stalls.
The fire was put off quickly after the arrival of fire tenders from Jowai.
Fortunately, the material loss from the fire was less as today was not a market day.
It was suspected that the cause of the fire was due to arson.
