Shillong, Jun 13: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized 702 plywood meant for concrete shuttering works from Pure Tree Trunk LLP during an operation carried out in Agartala, officials said.
Officials of the BIS, Guwahati Branch conducted an operation at the premises of the company on June 132 located at the RK Nagar Industrial Estate based on information and investigation.
During the operation, it was found that the establishment was engaged in the manufacture, storing and selling of ‘Plywood for Concrete Shuttering works’ without any valid licence/authorization from BIS.
A BIS statement said investigation also revealed that the manufacturer was dealing in products that were not certified, despite these items falling under mandatory certification under Indian Standards asIS 4990:2024.
The BIS is taking strict action against the offenders under Section 17(1) of the BIS Act, 2016. The violation could lead to imprisonment for up to two years or a hefty fine of no less than ₹2 lakh.
BIS continues to conduct such enforcement drives to safeguard consumer interests and to prevent deception and potential safety hazards arising from the use of non-compliant products.
The bureau has urged the public to report any misuse of the ISI mark or sales of uncertified products, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
