The Information and Career Guidance Cell, Shillong College today organised a webinar on ‘Academic Advancement: Information and Guidance’ for students.
Principal of the college, Dr E. Kharkongor Principal of Shillong emphasized that the initiative of career guidance and counselling programme is a major step to help the students in choosing their career.
Experts from the field of academic, Dr Ricky A J Syngkon, Assistant professor, department of Commerce, NEHU, T Pakyntein, Scholar Master Programme TISS, Mumbai, B Marwein, Doctoral Fellow, JNU New Delhi and U Mawkhlieng, Assistant professor NIFT Shillong attended the webinar as resource persons.
Syngkon and Pakyntein spoke on designing as a roadmap to help students to acquire information along with practical management which is necessary to identify career options.
Marwein said that career guidance is a comprehensive, developmental programme design for students in making and implementing informed educational choices. He asserted that counselling programmes helps students to acquire knowledge, skills and experience to achieve specific competency.
Mawkhlieng felt that focus should be laid on goals rather than work. He pointed out that decision making, goal setting and career planning are vital in enhancing student’s potentialities.
