Shillong, May 2: A scooty rider attempted to run over a constable during a vehicle check at Laitumkhrah Police Point here, while attempting to evade enforcement.
The East Khasi Hills district police intensified its efforts to combat drunken driving and various traffic violations by deploying 30 traffic and 15 SOT personnel to carry out checking last night.
However, while carrying out the operation, an incident occurred where a scooty rider attempted to run over UBC S.M. Sangma to evade the police check.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem said necessary legal actions are being initiated in response to this dangerous act.
He said fines amounting to about ₹1.5 lakh were imposed during the operation. Several cases of drunk driving were detected, along with multiple instances of vehicles with illegal modification, he added.
Members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, including rangbah shnong and rangbah dong, were present to bolster the enforcement initiative.
Syiem maintained the police department’s resolve to ensure the streets remain safe for everyone.
