Shillong, May 4: The Meghalaya Schools Welfare Development Association (MSWDA) has requested the state government to give preference to high-scoring schools in the distribution of grants in aid.
In a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today, the MSWDA said that, for secondary schools, preference should be given to those with a pass percentage of 50 per cent or more in the SSLC results from 2019 to 2023.
Tynsong was asked to take up the matter with the Chief Minister and to arrange a tripartite meeting between him, the Education Department and the MSWDA.
Last month the MSWDA said that the state government has ignored petitions for grant-in-aid to eligible schools. This has adversely affected 219 secondary schools, which currently receive only science grants, thereby limiting their resources and educational quality, the association added.
