Swachhata Hi Seva was launched in North Garo Hills today at Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Hall in Mendipathar.
Marking the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, the programme was organised under the theme “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, RP Marak followed by flagging off the Satyagrah se swachhagrah Rath Yatra.
Highlighting the objective of the programme, Marak said that the aim was to enhance public participation in spreading the importance of sanitation and hygiene; segregation and disposal of solid and liquid waste.
Informing on plastic waste management, he appealed the gathering to refrain from single use plastic bags by replacing them with cloth or jute bags.
Across the country, the programme is being observed from 15th September to October 2 wherein various activities to mark the event will be held. In the district also, a series of cleanliness oriented events will be observed by the PHE department, he added.
