Shillong, Oct 31: In a major crackdown on inter-state drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya apprehended two notorious traffickers and seized heroin worth Rs 60 lakh in West Garo Hills on Saturday.
The joint operation by ANTF and West Garo Hills Police was launched based on credible intelligence at Tikrikilla.
Police recovered 10 soap boxes containing 112.52 grams of heroin, valued at around Rs 60 lakh in the illicit market. Two cars and three mobile phones were also seized.
The accused have been identified as Shahadot Ali (31) of Rakhyasini Jungle Block and Rejaul Islam (31) of Helapokri — both residents of Mornoi, Goalpara, Assam.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Tikrikilla PS.
According to police, the duo is suspected to be part of a larger organised syndicate running an inter-state drug network. ANTF is probing forward and backward linkages to unearth the entire chain.
Meanwhile, ANTF Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar has appealed to citizens to share information on drug trafficking, assuring confidentiality and reward.
