The attempt by pressure groups under the umbrella of CoMSO to inspect the trading licences and related documents of men working in cement factories in Jaiñtia Hills was thwarted after police stopped them at Umtyra.
The self-appointed guardians of the indigenous people were halted by police at the Umtyra check gate where the former were directed to meet the Deputy Commissioner.
President of the East Jaiñtia National Council, Sambormi Lyngdoh said that the pressure groups including EJNC, JSM, HYC, and HANM, were planning to go for a surprise checking of men working at the cement factories, but on Umtyra check gate police personnel stop them there and directed them to go and meet the Deputy Commissioner.
“We met the Deputy Commissioner who told us that our attempts were stopped to prevent any untoward incident or fight,” East Jaiñtia National Council president Sambormi Lyngdoh said. “We advise the DC that in such a case he should convene a meeting in the presence of the officials from the Labour Department, police, district administration and the members of the CoMSO and they will together conduct a Joint Inspection of the cement factories.”
