      Night curfew, lockdown to continue in SWKH

      In continuation of the order issued on June 18 and in view of the high transmissibility of this particular variant of the coronavirus, it is deemed necessary to take urgent measures to prevent further spread of the Covid-19, to avoid an overwhelming strain on the health system and to avoid the loss of precious lives.

      Therefore, the District Magistrate of South West Khasi Hills under Section 144 CrPC read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, Covid-19 Regulations, 2020 promulgates night curfew in South West Khasi Hills from 10:00pm to 5:00am of July 5 to July 9 and lockdown from 10:00pm of July 9 to 5:00am of July 12.

      The order was made with a view to effectively contain the virus through proper tracing and isolation of positive persons including returnees, to mobilize all resources and community support for vaccination which the only way to protect the population at large, to build capacity on all fronts including confidence on home care & home management of mild cases and to impart proper awareness on preventive aspects of the diseases for which the Health Department has a critical window period.

      According to the order all government offices in the district are allowed to open. Political, public, social and religious gatherings are not permitted including conferences, meetings and training. Weddings are not permitted until further orders. Funeral gathering to be restricted to 10 persons with prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner and any gathering after the funeral in any form is prohibited. Entry of tourists from outside the state will not be permitted and all tourist spots shall main closed.

      International border trade at Borsora, Bagli and Cheragaon will be allowed to operate subject to regulation issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge of Ranikor civil sub-division.

      Sports activities are not permitted. In-situ construction works for government and private projects that do not involve movement of labour are permitted with prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Ranikor.

      All schools and colleges shall remain closed. Online classes are allowed. Farming, rural schemes will be allowed only in villages where there are no Covid-positive cases under the arrangement of respective BDOs.

      Markets in the district will be regulated in such a way that shops selling essential commodities at local village level are allowed to open but should close by 5:00pm and the Mawkyrwat Market and Temporary Farmers Market will be allowed to open from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. However, Mawkyrwat Market is allowed to open as per arrangement issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner on June 24. Inter-district movement of people and vehicles are strictly prohibited. Only vehicles with passes will be allowed to ply inter-district. However, intra-district movement of vehicles is allowed on an odd-even basis. Movement of skilled manpower for important government construction projects are permitted only after obtaining permission from the undersigned.

      Essential commodities will be available through shops in the localities as per the arrangement made by the local Dorbar Shnongs under the supervision of the Incident Commander. However, during the period of night curfew and lockdown, citizens are instructed to restrict themselves within their respective homes and localities.
