      East Khasi Hills logs lowest Covid numbers in 6 weeks

      Rest of Meghalaya witnesses surge

      Meghalaya recorded 495 new Covid-19 cases, eight deaths and 453 recoveries today, the Health Department informed.

      The number of new cases is the highest the state has recorded in the last four days. However, East Khasi Hills accounted for just 122, the lowest single day increase since April 28, while the rest of Meghalaya added 373 new infections, the second-highest figure this month.

      South West Khasi Hills reported 91 new cases, West Garo Hills 74, Ri-Bhoi 64, North Garo Hills 32, East Garo Hills 26, West Jaintia Hills 23, South Garo Hills 20, West Khasi Hills 20, South West Garo Hills 19 and East Jaintia Hills four.

      There were also 453 recoveries today – 222 in East Khasi Hills, 53 in West Garo Hills, 51 in Ri-Bhoi, 29 in West Jaintia Hills, 29 in South West Garo Hills, 24 in South West Khasi Hills, 12 in East Jaintia Hills, 10 in North Garo Hills, nine in East Garo Hills, seven in West Khasi Hills and seven in South Garo Hills.

      Seven fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures and one to that of East Garo Hills.

      There are now 4,464 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,503 active cases, West Garo Hills 699, West Jaintia Hills 585, Ri-Bhoi 367, South West Khasi Hills 284, North Garo Hills 255, South West Garo Hills 238, East Garo Hills 186, West Khasi Hills 159, South Garo Hills 119 and East Jaintia Hills 69.

      In all, Meghalaya has had 43,254 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,464 are active, 38,032 have recovered and 758 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased 87.93 percent. The fatality rate is 1.75 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases is 467.29.
