Congress MDC from Rongrong, Rinaldo K Sangma, has sought the intervention of the executive engineer of North Garo Hills into the many bridge and road construction projects in his constituency that have been delayed.
In a letter to the EE, Rinaldo highlighted the many incomplete projects in his area with grievance letters piling up with his office.
The projects in question are the Motchor to Ransel Road via Boda-Apal, the Chidaret Bridge and subway and the ongoing construction of the Damra to Berubari (NH-51) Road via Resubelpara.
“The halt in these constructions has been posing serious problems and has cut off major road communications for hundreds of villages and thousands of my people. These routes are the main lifelines for office goers, daily wage earners and the general public,” said Rinaldo.
The MDC pointed to many recent cases where sick and pregnant women had to face serious problems due to the incomplete road infrastructure.
“Further delay in the completion of these projects is to cause serious livelihood, life and death problems for my people in the long-run. I urge you to direct the stakeholders and contractors of the following roads and bridges to speed up construction works,” he stated.
On the issue of the Damra to Berubari road, the MDC stated that construction, which is currently mostly earth cutting, is untimely and has left the road extremely slippery and unusable. It has also been the source of many minor accidents due to vehicles losing control on the slippery sections.
