Shillong, Jul 23: Supercare Hospital, Shillong will organise a four-day public health campaign to observe World Hepatitis Day from July 24.
Titled, ‘World Hepatitis Awareness & Liver Health Initiative’, the campaign aims at promoting liver health, increasing awareness about hepatitis, encouraging early diagnosis, and improving access to preventive and specialised healthcare services.
The hospital said the initiative has been designed to educate the public on viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver disease, and liver cancer.
The campaign will highlight the importance of early screening, vaccination, timely investigations, and appropriate medical treatment. Through educational activities, expert consultations, and free community health services, the campaign seeks to empower individuals to take proactive steps towards protecting their liver health, it said.
On the concluding day of the campaign on July 28, the public will have access to free specialist consultation, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C screening tests, Hepatitis B vaccination, basic health screening including Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Height and Weight measurement, diet and nutrition counselling and health education counter.
Chief Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist & Interventional Endoscopist Dr. R. S. Thangkhiew said Hepatitis is a silent disease, but it is preventable, detectable and treatable. He urged the people to know their hepatitis status, protect their liver, and encourage at least one more person to do the same.
