Nongkrem MLA and Chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang today informed that he has secured supplies of oxygen for the people of his constituency.
“I have procured the oxygen stock for the people of Nongkrem because it seems there are no more beds and spaces available in the city hospitals. If they stay at home, who will treat them and assist them, especially the poor who will not be able to procure oxygen, especially in this situation where the whole country is facing a shortage of oxygen,” he told reporters.
Informing that Shillong Civil Hospital has only one bed unoccupied, he said, “Nazareth Hospital is also fully occupied and today Dr Andreas Dkhar of Civil Hospital stated that Covid cases are rising to a point where it may become difficult to admit patients who come for other treatment. Where will the patient coming for other ailments go?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Malngiang slammed the state of proceedings at the Umling checkpoint in Ri-Bhoi, the main entry point into Meghalaya by describing it as something akin to a cattle market.
“I suggest that the government increase the number of testing centres on the national highways so that the testing centre at Umling is decongested,” he said.
He also expressed concern that an army convoy breezed past the checkpoint recently and proceeded directly to the Assam Regimental Centre in Happy Valley. He said that when the army was asked about this, their personnel said that they bypassed the testing centre because it was too crowded and because they are the army.
