To contain the spread of Coronavirus, the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner has regulated timings for local markets in the district that will come into effect from May 1 to May 10.
The markets will include those in Wapung, Ladrymbai, Khliehriat, Rymbai, Bataw, Sutnga, Samasi, Umpleng, Saipung, Cheihruphi and Lumshnong.
In an order issued today, the DC said all retail shops/stalls and wholesale shops in these markets will open only on a market day. For retail shops the timing is fixed from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm for wholesale shops.
Only one person from each household are allowed coming out for shopping, the DC said, adding that no shopkeepers /sellers shall sell beyond the normal market price as printed MRP.
The Deputy Commissioner has also instructed all villages to place the services of the VDP or youth volunteers to their respective police thanas to assist the police in regulating social distancing during the movement and transaction in their respective jurisdiction and to also ensure due compliance to advisories.
The volunteers should ensure that there is no panic and pandemonium during the relaxed period and during the relaxed period plying of vehicles is restricted, he said.
The DC further called for cooperation from all the dorbar shnongs with the district administration to ensure that people maintain social distancing.
