The body of a man, who had apparently been on the run after bludgeoning to death his 17 year old step daughter was found early on Saturday morning, near the village where the incident took place on Friday.
The incident falls under the purview of the Bajengdoba police station under North Garo Hills (NGH) district.
On Friday afternoon, the step father had absconded after he had allegedly bludgeoned his daughter to death after she allegedly refused his sexual advances.
The accused had taken his family to a nearby meeting with clan members but had excused himself from the place over some pretext just to get home.
When he reached home, he apparently tried to sexually assault his step daughter which was resisted by the 17 year old.
Angered at the refusal, the stepfather killed his daughter before himself absconding from the place.
Upon being informed of the incident, a police team from North Garo Hills reached the village and a search for the accused was undertaken.
“We searched all places where we believed he could be hiding, including his mother’s. However he was nowhere to be found. This morning, we received information that the accused was found hanging from a nearby jungle. An investigation into the matter is currently on,” said district police chief, Abraham T Sangma.
During an initial inquest into the death of the 17 year old, there were signs of the girl being sexually exploited though the matter can only be confirmed after a post mortem.
The accused stepfather had apparently gone to the house of one of his friends after killing his daughter and spent the night in the house.
