UDP chief adviser, Bindo M Lanong has stated that his party is looking forward to lead the executive committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
Stating that no party appears to fetch a comfortable majority in the house of 30, Lanong said “Out of its total 18 candidates fielded, the UDP is in interlocked for the first position with its opponents in about 15 constituencies.”
Informing that party leaders camping in the Garo Hills to drum support for the candidates in the elections Lanong said his colleagues have banked on restoration of normal administration in the council and early clearance of salary to all its employees.
Lanong in a statement today said that his party during the campaign highlighted the failure of the last executive committee to pay salary to their employee for the last three years, leading to closure of the GHADC office and appointment of the administrator for the last 6 months.
He said such incidents have never occurred in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council when the coffers of all district councils have much improved, not only from their own revenue, but also from the shares of the State government and central funding.
