Works to ensure water for all under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Umlyngsha village under East Jaiñtia Hills are being taken up on a war footing.
As the mission mandates the involvement of local community in planning, implementation, operation and maintenance of water supply schemes the village dorbar has been up and active to ensure that water reaches its residents.
“Works is almost 95 per cent complete and we hope our household of 46 will benefit,” Waheh Shnong, Namphrangmi Talang said. He said at an expense of Rs 37 lakh the dorbar shnong is lending its support by engaging the Village Sanitation Committee to work in coordination with the PHE department.
Announced on August 15, 2019 by the central government, the JJM is under implementation in partnership with states with the objective to provide tap water connection to every rural household of the country by 2024.
The goal of the mission is to enable every rural household with assured availability of potable water at a service level of 55 litres per capita per day on a regular and long-term basis so as to bring improvements in lives of people living in rural areas.
