HNLC issues veiled threat to Doloi of Sutnga

The banned HNLC has issued a veiled threat to the Doloi of Sutnga Elaka, Erudith Sutnga over the alleged illegal business activities operated by outsiders at Soo Kilo market of East Jaiñtia Hills.

In a statement issued today, the HNLC after the recent bomb blast carried out by its members at Soo Kilo, the Doloi of Sutnga denied his involvement in the illegal activities and put the blame on the local headman of the area.

“There was a provocation by the Doloi when our members spoke to him by phone. Therefore, we will be compelled to take drastic measures against him for denying his involvement in the illegal activities at Soo Kilo market,” HNLC general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in the statement.

Denying that it had demanded money from the Doloi, the HNLC also advised people to avoid him. “We will not take any responsibility for anything that happens later,” it said.

“We also warn people not to visit the shops or do any business with those persons who have issues with us,” the HNLC said.

It also said that the provocation by the Doloi was done on the advice of police in order to trap members of the outfit.

On the recent statement by Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui regarding peace talks, the HNLC said it was tired of the delay by the government to take initiatives for peace dialogues with the outfit ever since the offer was made in 2004.

“We want to make it clear that the peace that we want is not through surrender or financial package. What we wanted is a political solution to all the pending issues since 1947,” the HNLC said.

It may be mentioned that Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has on November 30 asked the HNLC to show seriousness that it wants to come forward for peace talks. His comments came days after the outfit claimed it carried out bomb blast at Soo Kilo market.
