Three more fatalities from Covid-19 in Meghalaya were recorded today, breaking a run of three days without reports of deaths from the disease. Sixty new cases and 89 recoveries were also reported in the last 24 hours.
All three deaths were in East Khasi Hills, but apart from this no further information was forthcoming from the Health Department, going against the norm over the past few months.
With 46 new infections, East Khasi Hills has now recorded a total of 3,518 cases of Covid-19 since the first back in April. Recoveries in the district also crossed 2,500 and now stand at 2,536, with 39 deaths from the virus.
The total number of active cases in the state is 1,448, with a total of 3,868 recoveries and 46 fatalities.
West Garo Hills (11) and South West Garo Hills (3) also recorded new cases today, while East Khasi Hills (71), Ri-Bhoi (12) and South West Garo Hills (6) accounted for the recoveries. This brought Ri-Bhoi’s tally of active cases below 100.
Of the new cases, East Khasi Hills reported 22 among high-risk contacts, four in the Umpling cluster, three influenza like illnesses (ILIs), two in the Mawprem cluster, one severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), one in Golf Links, one health workers, one in Khyndailad and one in Qualapatty. Seven high-risk cases and four returnees accounted for new infections in West Garo Hills, while there were two jawans and one returnee who tested positive in South West Garo Hills.
The total active cases in the state are 943 in East Khasi Hills, 216 in East Jaiñtia Hills, 126 in West Garo Hills, 96 in Ri-Bhoi, 23 in North Garo Hills, 12 in East Garo Hills, 11 in South West Garo Hills, eight each in West Jaiñtia Hills and West Khasi Hills, three in South West Khasi Hills and two in South Garo Hills.
Until Monday afternoon a total of 1, 45,681 samples have been sent for testing out of which 1, 40,319 were negative.
Moreover, until Monday afternoon, a total of 41,705 people have entered the state since coronavirus restrictions were put in place.
