The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023, a nationwide citizen-led survey will begin in East Khasi Hills to provide reliable annual estimates of children’s schooling status and basic learning levels.
Senior ASER Associate Kevin Donald Sawian said, the survey will be conducted in 60 sampled villages within the district. He said 95 students from the School of Social Work and Sociology Department of Martin Luther Christian University will undergo training to conduct the survey.
ASER 2023 ‘Beyond Basics’ will gather information on the activity, aspirations, digital awareness, and skills of youth in the age group of 14-18 year. Sawian said the survey will focus on activity, ability to apply basic reading and arithmetic in everyday situations and simple financial calculations and acquisition, to know if they can handle a digital device or have basic digital skills.
“By keeping the domains of activity and ability as close as possible to ASER 2017, this year’s survey will provide comparable estimates, giving a glimpse of how these have changed for India’s youth over the six-year period which was marked by two years of school and college closures due to COVID-19,” he informed.
ASER report will be released in mid-January 2024 with an objective to generate reliable and easy to understand evidence at scale, so as to facilitate a public conversation on issues that concern the entire country.
