Four workers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were injured when a large tree fell on National Highway 6 at Umling, Ri-Bhoi today.
This incident occurred at around 2pm while the workers were performing their duties on the road side of the National Highway.
The injured persons were immediately shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital. One, identified as Morning Star Marwein, was severely injured. Due to his critical injuries, he was later referred to Shillong Civil Hospital for better treatment.
The collapse of the giant tree also caused a traffic jam but NHAI officials were able to clear the debris and free up the road in due course.
