People of Narpuh, East Jaiñtia Hills, along with representatives of some pressure groups, today disrupted traffic flow after they halted vehicles passing through the National Highway 6 at Kuliang .
They are demanding the immediate repair of the deplorable road condition in the area.
Speaking to reporters, the Secretary of Sonapyrdi, Daiapherbha Lamare, lamented that despite filing a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for immediate repair of the road nothing much has been done.
Stating that bad roads are the main cause of traffic congestion from Sonapur to Ratacherra, he said, “We condemn the Deputy Commissioner of the district who has turned a deaf ear to the public grievances despite assurances given.”
Waheh Shnong of Umkiang, F Lamin, said bad roads that cause traffic congestion have seriously affected those in need of immediate medical attention.
The standoff today lasted until the Extra Assistant Commissioner of the district, SS Marwein, called the contractor who promised to start the repairs immediately.
