East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested four drug peddlers, including two women, one of them a habitual offender.
A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Bidhan Bhattacharjee after receiving inputs about movement of drug traffickers today intercepted a private vehicle coming from Silchar, Assam at Umtyra village and nabbed two persons and a woman.
The team during search recovered 15 soap boxes of yellowish powder, which tested positive of heroin weighing 164 .99 grams. They seized one Hyundai Venue bearing registration number AS 01 EJ 8977 used for transporting the illicit drug and three mobile phones.
The arrested persons were Sahin Hussain Laskar, Rofiqul Alom Laskar of Harsinghpur Nagdirgram in Cachar and Mamta Sinha of Simgiri, Chibitabicha Cachar.
Following preliminary interrogation of the accused persons they revealed that the consignment was to be delivered to one Maya Gwala, who was also arrested from Khliehriat.
Police said Gwala was arrested in May, 2023 in a drugs case in East Jaiñtia Hills and other cases in Shillong.
