The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) of West Jaintia Hills conducted a one day training session on legal literacy for paralegal volunteers today at the District and Sessions Court, Khliehtyrshi.
DLSA secretary B Majaw briefed the paralegals on FIRs, the process of filling an FIR and the importance of accurate and timely reporting of incidents. The volunteers also received detailed insights into various schemes offered by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and free legal services.
She also briefed the volunteers on various topics including the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the basic distinction between criminal and civil law, compoundable and non-compoundable offences, bailable and non-bailable offences and the rights of prisoners.
Later, the volunteers actively participated and sought clarification on various matters during the interactive session.
