Acting on a specific tip-off, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya rescued 36 cattle from the international border along West and East Jaintia Hills early this morning.
The cattle were meant to be transported illegally into Bangladesh but the smuggling operation was foiled, the BSF said in a press release. The cattle were handed over to police for further legal action. No details on the smugglers, the value of the cattle or exactly where the seizure took place were provided.
The BSF Meghalaya did say, however, that it has enhanced its vigil on the border in view of the forthcoming Eid holiday when cattle are in higher demand in Bangladesh.
