Two pressure groups have written to the District Child Protection Officer of North Garo Hills alleging that a horrific rape was perpetrated against a 12-year-old girl in the days leading up to New Year.
The A·chik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) and A·chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) said that the girl (whose name and village were provided by the groups but are not being published here to protect her identity) was bound hand and foot and raped on December 27-28.
The two groups identified the suspect by name and said that he is 55 or 60 years old and is a resident of the same village as the victim. The AIJIF and AYWO demanded that legal action be taken against him.
